Hi, I’m Semen Mikhtaniuk! 👋

I’m a Software Engineer based in Be’er Sheva, Israel, with 4+ years of professional experience in backend development, data ingestion, production support, and data-intensive systems.

I currently work primarily with TypeScript, NestJS, PostgreSQL, and AWS, while also having substantial experience with Python backend development and ETL/data ingestion. My work has included production backend features, integrations and connectors, distributed data processing, vector-based systems, and supporting production systems directly with customers and internal teams.

I’m currently pursuing a B.S. in Information Systems at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, with an expected graduation in 2028. Before moving to Israel, I completed one year of Computer Science B.S. studies at ITMO University in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Professional Experience

RevealSecurity — Software Engineer

May 2023 – Present

  • Contribute across a TypeScript/NestJS production backend, implementing features, fixing critical bugs, and refactoring existing PostgreSQL/TypeORM code.
  • Independently support production connectors, resolve incidents, and work directly with customers and internal analysts.
  • Work across the product on pgvector-based scoring, TypeScript integrations, and user-journey processing and aggregation.
  • Benchmark HNSW/pgvector configurations and evaluate open-source LLMs on AWS EC2, comparing performance and output quality.
  • Built and maintained Python connectors for ingesting, parsing, and normalizing data from APIs, databases, cloud storage, and other services.
  • Improved pytest execution time by approximately 50% through parallelization.
  • Contributed to distributed data processing with Spark/PySpark and a Node.js service for running and monitoring Amazon EMR on EKS jobs.

  • Developed backend features using Python, Django, DRF, PostgreSQL, Wagtail, and Channels for a platform used by doctors and clinics.
  • Built integrations and worked on real-time functionality using WebSockets and Django Channels.

Winner of the Open Olympiad of Schoolchildren in Computer Science (2021)

Top-tier Russian computer science olympiad organized by ITMO University. Winners qualified for admission to eligible computer science programs at Russian universities without entrance exams.
